SuomiNet Support

Central Washington University SC00
Manastash Ridge Observatory (sc00) site is located east of Ellensburg, Washington on Manastash Ridge. This site was the first geodetic quality SuomiNet site. A microwave communications link between the Observatory and CWU provides real-time data flow. The Observatory is run by the University of Washington Astronomy Department; the microwave link was supplied by the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington, and we are grateful to CWU Geology for hosting the downlink end at CWU. The Electrical Engineering project is a (passive) VHF radar used for auroral E region plasma turbulence studies; see http://rrsl.ee.washington.edu . The EE project is supported primarily by grants from the National Science Foundation. You can see some of our computer stuff in the interior photos towards the bottom of the WWW page.

GPS station SC00 looking Northwest. Note antenna mast for microwave link to the right of the GPS Antenna. The MET pack is at the far right of the photo.

GPS station looking Southwest. The nearest snowy ridge is the Western end of Umtanum Ridge; on the horizon beyond is Cleman Mountain

GPS station looking East along Manastash Ridge, out over the dry country of eastern Kittitas County, towards Badger Pocket, Ryegrass, and the Columbia River.

GPS station looking North. The UW observatory is in the background. MET sensor can be seen directly behind the GPS antenna.
